Sin da quando era piccolo, Makoto possiede uno strano potere che gli permette di leggere la memoria degli oggetti che tocca. Nascondendo questo potere, lavora come agente speciale nelle forze dell'ordine ed un giorno, mentre investigava sulle cause di un'esplosione in un laboratorio che faceva ricerche su una sostanza misteriosa, chiamata "XM", entra in contatto con delle memorie misteriose dell'anello di Sarah, unica sopravvissuta dell'incidente. Ciò che mostra la memoria è una sagoma di una persona mentre scompare in una luce rossa. Makoto viene subito immischiato in un'enorme cospirazione. La battaglia per "XM", un materiale in grado di avere effetti sulla mente umana, inizia ora...
